Johnston, RI December 9

Hi - RISA (www.risongwriters.com) has me playing as part of their songwriters series this Saturday night at Brewed Awakenings in Johnston; don't miss it!

RavenFest

Well, I had a blast last night. I followed Spogga's set in a series of opening acts for Kristi Martel's RavenFest. I also had the distinct pleasure of joining the Kristi Martel Band for many songs during their sets, and they're just a fine gang of super talented people to work with. My solo set went:

Song of Hopeful Encouragement

Into The Sun

You Thought You Were Great

In The Hazy Glow of the Mount'nous Horizon

Consider Everything

In other news, the new CD is practically here ... I should be finalizing the audio tonight ... artwork is done! All that remains is making the discs themselves, and it'll be out, and this site will then look like the new album, instead of 5000. New album's called 4999. In a couple of days you can buy it here or at any show. Well, any of my shows anyway.

Brewed Awakenings Nov 11 & Nov 4

Wakefield on the 11th was a blast, I couldn't have had too much more fun the way that went down from my perception of things. Another RISA-organized incident resulting in meeting yet another fellow RI quality songwriter, Mardi Garcia from Providence - keep your eye out for Mardi's new CD. Why do we keep writing songs, anyway?

We played from 8:30 to 10:30, alternating half-hour sets. Here's how my two sets went:

1

I Keep Seeing It's A Beautiful Life
You Thought You Were Great
The Visible Edge*
Soft Rock Air*
The Joke Is On*
Capable of Saying Things
Always Washing Everything
Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town+
We Belong Together

2

As It Gets Hot
All the World's On Sale
Gorgeous in the Face
Song of Hopeful Encouragement
Throat Drops, Mama.
At the Movies
Teeth In Rows
Goin' up to NH, Maybe VT
Barnstable Gallagher
Waiting For The Future

The November 4th kickoff of the RI Songwriters Series at Brewed Awakenings in Johnston felt like a success in so many ways. I've been telling people about Frank Martyn ... www.myspace.com/frankmartyn ... really enjoyed his spin on things. We each played two half-hour sets. Here's some of what I played (can't remember all of it ... it was kind of a while ago):

Mutually Exclusive part 1
Capable of Saying Things
As It Gets Hot
All The World's On Sale
Can You Win?
Dear Sweet Baby
Song of Hopeful Encouragement
I Keep Seeing It's a Beautiful Life
Acoustic Canoe-Stick**
Soft Rock Air
At The Movies
The Joke Is On
In the Hazy Glow of the Mount'nous Horizon

*Tomkin's requests; **Dina's request; +table's request - i think the whole table was behind the push for that Pearl Jam song.

Brewed Awakenings January 20th, 2007!

Played Saturday night 1/20 at Brewed Awakenings in Johnston ... Frank Martyn and Allysen Callery also performed, as did Noel Patoine. We even did a collaborative skit that Frank wrote! Crazy, I know! Here was my setlist:

Joke is On
Gorgeous in the Face
As it Gets Hot
A Farewell to Kings (Rush cover ... not LIMBAUGH! That guy's songs are horrible)
All the World's On Sale
Why Drive a Tank
Creme Brule
Visible Edge
You Thought You Were Great
In the Hazy Glow of the Mount'nous Horizon
Always Washing Everything

Check www.SilviaBrothers.com for those wonderfully long bar gigs w/Mike where we play those radio hits for the insatiable appetite of the bar gig people. That's we're you can find me in the very near future.

Brewed Awakenings Wakefield, 3-17

Daniel Ouellette and myself played at Brewed Awakenings this past Saturday ... I actually played about one hour nonstop, only a couple cover songs. A decent show, all told. I think I owe Dan some money though; we didn't split the mountain of tip money exactly evenly ...

STONE SOUP!!

Well that was a good night. I felt like everyone in the room was treated to some very nice local original music, and people were buying coffee and cookies and CDs. I played "Song of Hopeful Encouragement", "At the Movies", "Always Washing Everything", & "In The Hazy Glow of the Mount'nous Horizon". Hope to play there again - a nice room to be sure, and the Stone Soup folks were real nice too.

New Story - "On Quitting the Coffee Club"

I confused my mother, I think, when I dedicated this story to my parents for their anniversary. I enjoyed that so much that I wrote another one and dedicated it to my sister for her birthday. I don't think she was as confused though. The next story should be up soon, stay tuned.

Brewed Awakenings Johnston Saturday April 14

Lisa Lawrence, Frank Martyn and myself played the Johnston Brewed Awakenings this past Saturday night - Lisa knows of the exact McDonald's I refer to in "In the Hazy Glow of the Mount'nous Horizon"! She's a great singer/songwriter in her own right, and Frank's no slouch neither.

I'm gonna post my setlist right here,
As soon as I find it.

Busy Memorial Day Weekend!

Hi - busy weekend for gigs .... Silvia Brothers Friday at Vintage, Woonsocket, RI - then I play two parties Saturday (Hi Waterbury!!) & Sunday in Slatersville.

Yeah!

I wish there were a better, more common term for 'gig'. Never liked it much, myself. How about we hijack some other term like, 'Bourgeoisie'? I have three bourgeoisies this weekend.

Ri~Ra Thursday 9/06/2007, Grumpy's Friday 9/07

At around 10pm at Ri~Ra in Providence, RI September 6, 2007, Silvia Brothers played one of their most technically difficult gigs in recent memory.

The bass drum head broke, and we had tuning, mixing & feedback problems ...

No broken strings though, and we managed to actually perform well.

Tonight we make up for it at Grumpy's in Bellingham MA. Usually when I plan on overcoming a given night's obstacles, I seem to pull it off. I'll let you know how it goes.

Yesfans Boston July 28 2007!

Yesfans 2007 Boston gathering! It was a blast.

I played something like:
Ladies & Gentlemen of the World
Why Drive a Tank
Song of Hopeful Encouragement
You Look Good Tonight
Hardly Solid Softly Pliable
Flight of the Moorglade (Jon Anderson)

And then, I ended up jamming with a couple from LA whose songs I've long admired ... Earl Grey & Lisa Johnson.

Then, (seemingly out of nowhere, for those of us not following along!), a fantastic Yes cover band called Delirium takes the stage and kicks all our arses. A night to remember for sure.

Out of the Blue 3/20

I was just afforded a nice long set in front of a beautifully attentive and appreciating audience in Cambridge Friday night. Out of the Blue is a small art gallery that hosts live music, and it's a great combination. I wish I'd recorded it, thought it was one of those sets. Maybe just better than par, even.

Gary Backstrom Band were great too; turns out I kinda know Gary & didn't realize it .. I missed the Humblebee set though.

A lot of great players & writers in this circle of folks. Look for more dates with the Grass Gypsys later this spring & summer.
